SA Teenage girl critical in hospital with unidentified strain of meningococcal

A TEENAGE girl is in a critical condition in hospital with an unknown strain of meningococcal.

The 15-year-old from metropolitan Adelaide was in contact with several people during the infectious stage of the disease.

SA Health has now prescribed precautionary clearance antibiotics to 14 people.

The strain affecting the teen girl has not been identified.

There have been 27 cases of invasive meningococcal so far this year compared to 34 at the same time last year.

Of the 27 cases, 21 were B group, one was Y group, four were W group and one has yet to be identified.
