The Meningitis Centre will join the Confederation of Meningitis Organisations  to celebrate

World Meningitis Day – 25^th April 2009

Meningitis causes death, disability and family destruction worldwide. It does not know north, south, east or west. It does not know a nation’s boundary.  It does not know a person’s age or wealth, the color of their skin, male or female.   Meningitis can attack anyone!

The number of cases of bacterial meningitis varies widely around the world and some forms of meningitis are at epidemic proportions, especially in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa .

The Confederation of Meningitis Organisations (CoMO ) was formed in 2004 to bring together organisations from around the world who are speaking out to raise awareness about this disease and the need to be vaccinated.  CoMO members include 19 countries across Europe, North and South America , Australia , the Philippines and Africa .

CoMO is announcing Saturday 25^th April 2009 as World Meningitis Day.  We are asking everyone to join hands against meningitis in an effort to draw attention to this disease and its devastating effects. You can do this locally by contacting a meningitis organisation in your area.  Their contact information is on the CoMO website @ www.comoonline.org .  Y ou can also join hands in a global virtual community on the CoMO website.
