The Meningitis Centre Book - Meningitis: A Tragedy by Instalments
In 2008 The Meningitis Centre launched the book Meningitis: A Tragedy by Instalments that shares the story of three families and their doctors experience with meningitis.
The book was born out of the desire to document the scale of meningitis, even for those families whose children were not killed by the disease. For those whose children were left disabled or scarred, and for those whose children recovered, the impact of meningitis was still life changing.
It's a wonderful thing that the cases of meningitis have fallen in Australia however this book seeks to act as a reminder that the causes of the disease are still out there and that it is incumbent on all of us, parents, doctors, governments, to remain alert and proactive against this threat.
Meningitis: A Tragedy by Instalments is published in recognition of the many people who contacted us with their stories. We thank them for being so willing to share their experiences and the help this has given us in strengthening our Centre and contributing to greater awareness of the disease.
